Dry ice maker machine is an industrial or commercial ice maker equipment designed to convert liquid carbon dioxide (LCO2) into solid carbon dioxide (dry ice). Carbon dioxide (CO2) exists in three physical states—gas, liquid, and solid—depending on temperature and pressure, dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide. The dry ice making machine does not itself produce carbon dioxide; rather, it is a device that alters the physical state of carbon dioxide and compresses solid carbon dioxide into various shapes.
The raw material for the dry ice maker machine is liquid carbon dioxide, which is stored in a cryogenic CO2 storage tank (a double-walled, vacuum-insulated pressure vessel) at a pressure of approximately 2.3 MPa. When the liquid CO2 is released from the storage tank into the machine's chamber, the pressure drops rapidly to atmospheric pressure of 0.1Mpa; a portion of the liquid CO2 instantly vaporizes, absorbing a significant amount of heat and causing the temperature of the remaining liquid CO2 to plummet to -78.5°C, where it solidifies into snowflake-like dry ice. This snowflake-like dry ice is then forced into a mold by a hydraulic cylinder and compressed under high pressure to form high-density dry ice pellets, dry ice blocks, or dry ice slices—this is the working principle of the dry ice maker machine.
Standard dry ice production machines (such as the Sichuan Aosituo PE180) typically have a conversion rate of 40% to 43%; for instance, 100 kg of liquid CO2 yields 40–43 kg of dry ice, or 1 kg of dry ice is produced from every 2.3–2.5 kg of liquid CO2. The quality of the liquid CO2 feeding is a critical factor, and the liquid CO2 supply must meet the raw material requirements set by the dry ice machine manufacturer.
